What is the biggest threat to your retirement? Let me explain with a short story.
And then I’ll show you how your situation might be similar. And how to fix it.
One day I was talking with a retired friend named Pete and the conversation turned to investments.
Pete told me how he had saved over $700,000 for retirement. It took him 40 years to do that.
But each time there was a market “correction” it chipped away at his life savings.
Sometimes it was an avalanche.
And I was shocked to learn just how much it had cost him.
By 2009 he had lost over 75% from stock market crashes!
That’s nearly $550,000 in losses!
So now Pete has less than $180,000 left. And that has to last him and his wife the rest of their lives.
They now live mostly on Social Security.
Just passing the time…
But Pete said the worst part was not the money. It was the Regret of lost Time.
He figured he lost almost 30 years of hard-earned savings. And that was a hard pill to swallow.
Pete is not a gambler. In fact, he hated the whole idea of gambling with his life savings.
But his financial advisor had built his portfolio of stocks and bonds that tanked each time the market crashed.
And it happened over and over…
Pete’s portfolio crashed in 1987, 1989, the early 1990’s, 1997, 2000, 9/11/2001, 2002 and 2007-9.
Pete’s Biggest Regret
But I told Pete it doesn’t have to be this way.
If he only made a few simple changes, he could avoid getting caught in the next crash…
But Pete said it was “too late for him” to change.
And he regretted that he didn’t do something sooner. He regretted losing 30 years of his life savings.
So Pete let Apathy get the best of him and you can see the results.
Apathy cost Pete and his family most of their life savings.
And that’s why Apathy is the biggest threat to your retirement.
But Apathy is also easy to fix…
Don’t Let Apathy Leave You With Regret
Maybe you have experienced some of these crashes.
And maybe you have let Apathy creep in, thinking nothing can be done.
But it’s not too late to make a change.
Action is the enemy of Apathy.
So all it takes to kill Apathy… and avoid Regret… is to decide to do something.
Do something now.
Because if you wait until disaster strikes it may be too late.
And who knows when the next crash will happen?
So make a decision to get past Apathy and avoid Regret starting right now.
So would you like to learn how to fix this?
